Our Story
It all started in the summer of 2019. We were both camping on our own—often at Campit—but hadn’t met yet. That changed thanks to a friend named Freddy, who Adam met during a late-night boat cruise out of Sidetrack. When Freddy posted to Instagram that he was heading to Campit’s Mardi Gras weekend, Adam replied to let him know he’d be there too.
That weekend, Freddy introduced Adam to Jason (and Jason’s partner, Andrew), and from there, the connection stuck. The 2019 season wrapped, but we stayed in touch. When summer 2020 came and camping became a pandemic-friendly escape, we started doing weekend trips together — including one to a gay campground in Indiana.
Somewhere between those weekends, the idea of building something more permanent began to form. Not just a place to stay — but a place to gather.
At the time, Jason had a tiny Palomino truck camper that barely fit us, but we made it work. Cozy is a generous word. Tight squeezes, creative storage, and lots of laughter defined those early seasons.
That fall, over beers at darts league, the idea came up: “Should we go seasonal next year at Campit?” It wasn’t a dramatic decision. It was casual. Logical. And slightly dangerous.
For the 2021 and 2022 seasons, that tiny camper became our home base — just enough to squeeze us all in and build a rhythm. That’s when Site 71 officially began.
By 2023, it was time to stretch out a bit. We upgraded to a 33' Forest River camper — technically able to sleep 10, but realistically perfect for 6 or 7.
That upgrade changed everything. We could host bigger weekends. Friends could stay. The deck became more than just an add-on — it became the beginning of something social.
Through 2023 and 2024, Site 71 started to feel less like “our campsite” and more like a gathering point.
And then came 2025. We upgraded again — this time to a 36' Coachmen Catalina Legacy Edition. More space. Better flow. Room to truly settle in for the season.
But the real evolution wasn’t just inside the camper. It was what happened around it.
In 2025, we added a full outdoor kitchen. What started as a simple deck over the years became a true outdoor living room — complete with bar seating, prep space, storage, lighting, and a glowing sign that makes it very clear: this is where the drinks are.
Afternoon snacks turn into evening cocktails. Evening cocktails turn into late-night conversations. The kitchen became the heartbeat of the site.
Layered lighting, lounge seating, music drifting through the trees — the entire space transforms at night. What used to be a campsite now feels like a destination.
Somewhere along the way, Site 71 became more than just our home base — it became a starting point. We now help host the Friday cocktail crawl, welcoming newcomers and longtime campers alike.
Introductions happen here. Laughs start here. Weekends officially begin here.
The hot tub quickly became a staple at Site 71. Swimsuits are optional, inhibitions are negotiable, and the best connections happen under the steam — with chemistry, consent, and maybe a little mischief.
Golf cart cruises, late-night loops, dramatic entrances — movement is part of camp culture. And yes, Site 71 participates enthusiastically.
